From September 23 to 25, 2014, Crocus Expo IEC hosted the 3rd International exhibition “HOTEL. Development, Design & Operation”, one of the key events of Russian and CIS hospitality industry.

The organizer is the International exhibition project PIR Expo. The exhibition was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Federal Agency for Tourism (Russiatourism), Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Committee on Tourism and Hotel Industry of the city of Moscow, Russian Union of Travel Industry (RUTI) and the Moscow branch of OPORA ROSSII (SUPPORT OF RUSSIA) as well as under the auspices of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of Russia (FRIO), one of the exhibition’s permanent strategic partners.

This year, the exhibition has welcomed 135 companies specializing in hotel design, provision of complex fit-out and refurbishment services, development of software and security systems for hotels, delivery of textile and cleaning products and provision of other services. Many of them have presented innovations for Russian hospitality market. The products have been presented not only by Russian and CIS companies, but also by Chinese, Turkish and other companies. During three days the exhibition hosted 9,100 visitors, including hoteliers from Moscow, St. Petersburg and many regions of Russia, business owners, senior managers, hotel managers, investors, developers and other hospitality industry professionals.

This year SAMSUNG has become a new partner of the “HOTEL. Development, Design, & Operation” exhibition. Procter & Gamble Professional has participated in the exhibition as its “cleaning” partner for the second time, and IIC Euro-Policy has become the exhibition’s official insurance company. CRISTANVAL has also taken part in the exhibition as its official partner, while TravelLine has acted as its business program partner.

The “HOTEL. Development, Design & Operation” exhibition counted with seven thematic sites, which hosted training seminars, practical workshops, conferences, round tables and hotel market expert consultations on the most relevant issues. The companies involved in “HOTEL-2014” presented specialized professional equipment for hotels, furniture, sanitary ware products, cosmetics, uniforms, linen, interior items, durable finishing materials, the latest energy- and resource-efficient technologies, automated control systems, online services for hotels and more.

On September 24, a direct dialogue between business and state named “HoReCa. Dialogue: Business and State” Conference took place; it became a key business event of the exhibition. The conference brought together influential representatives of state structures and representatives of large hotel and restaurant chain complexes, managers and representatives of small restaurants and hotels. “HoReCa. Dialogue: Business and State” was divided into three thematic sessions: conference named “Rospotrebnadzor - new rules of the game in restaurant business and hospitality industry”; round table and panel discussion named “Classification and certification of hotels. What's new? Requirements and opportunities for extra revenue” and “Federal Migration Service - new rules of the game in the restaurant business and hospitality industry”, respectively. The conference addressed such issues as new Sanitary Regulations and Standards (SaNPin), preparation of hotels for the FIFA World Cup-2018, anti-smoking law in action, problems of restaurateurs and hoteliers during state control inspections, etc. The Chairman of the Committee on Tourism and Hotel Industry of the city of Moscow Sergey Shpilko spoke on the classification and certification of hotels, Vadim Prasov, the Vice-President of FRIO, acted as the moderator of the round table.

Representatives of the Federal Migration Service of Russia as well as experts from OPORA ROSSII talked about electronic data transfer, migration registration of foreign hotel guests, and check in procedure for foreign guests and they also presented explanations on a number of topical issues of the subject.

Among the participants of the dialogue there were representatives of Rospotrebnadzor (Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing), FMS of Russia, Directorate General of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, Committee on Tourism and Hotel Industry of the city of Moscow, Russian Hotel Association, Moscow city Branch of OPORA ROSSII, Department of Science, Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship of the city of Moscow, including: Aleksandr Ivanov, Deputy Head of the Department of Trade and Services of the city of Moscow; Aleksandr Zharkov, Chairman of the Council of Moscow city Branch of OPORA ROSSII; Sergey Shpilko, Chairman of the Committee on Tourism and Hotel Industry of the city of Moscow; Valentin Shagraev, Head of the Department on Organization of Information Security of Information Technology Administration of the FMS of Russia; Nikolay Kurdyumov, Chairman of the Board of Trudovaya Migratsiya (Labour Migration) International Alliance, Member of the Public Council under the FMS of Russia; Sergey Lysikov, Head of the Supervisory Administration of the Directorate General of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Moscow; as well as such industry personalities as Igor Bukharov, President of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers (FRIO); Sergey Kolesnikov, Vice-President of FRIO; Vadim Prasov, Vice-President of FRIO; Tatyana Gostenina, Chief Expert of the Department for Presidential Affairs of the Russian Federation for Hotel Classification, Vice-President of FRIO; Gennadiy Lamshin, Chairman of the Russian Hotel Association; Igor Lavrik, Chairman of the Hospitality Industry Branch of Delovaya Rossiya (Business Russia) Public Organization, and others.

Each session of the “HoReCa. Dialogue: Business and State” conference gathered an incredibly big audience. The visitors expressed their gratitude to the organizers and speakers and also emphasized the importance of all the activities of the Dialogue.

The real jewel of the exhibition was the Central Site called “The Russian House”, a design project developed by Architector Business Group. Decorated in Gzhel painting style, it served as a model of harmonious combination of modern style, comfort and luxury with elements of Russian identity. The main idea of “The Russian House” was brought to life mainly due to the partners of the site: SAMSUNG showed modern visualization capabilities by provision of a video wall with four screens; the design development and furniture manufacturing in harmony with the general concept of the site that won the hearts of all visitors were given by the best specialists of OTTO STELLE, a company specilaizing in production of high quality furniture; NEWMAT provided the lighting constructions for the site, and NOVOFLOR provided a specialized carpeted floor made in the common style of “The Russian House”.

The central site hosted round tables and expert consultations, numerous meetings of colleagues and important business talks. The awarding ceremony of the winners of student hotel service contest named “Student PIR” also took place on this site.

On September 23, a round table named “The Russian style in organization of hotels” was held on the central site. During the event, Andrey Bagaturiya, Director General of Architector Business Group, Aleksandr Sedukhin, Managing Partner in Ioann Vasilievich, LLC (Yaroslavl) and SergeyKolesnikov, Vice President of FRIO, talked about the concept of the Russian identity style in a hotel, perception of the country by a guest through hospitality industry as well as about how to use the elements of traditional perception for bringing Russian identity into a hotel.

Next to “The Russian House” there was a show-room named “The Energy Efficient Hotel Room” - a unique display format showing modern hotel energy efficient technologies as well as innovative architecture and design options for hotel operation cost reduction. SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC became an official partner of the display and among the show-room’s partners there were ARTTEX, VITRA, Electric Project, Novoflor, Novye Akusticheskie Arkhitekturnye Tekhnologii (New Acoustic Architecture Technologies) and Radius.

This year “The School of Hospitality Industry Managers” site of “HOTEL-2014” has been divided into two sections – “Sales Technologies” and “Hotel Team”. The site hosted business activities on the most topical issues: corporate sales at a hotel, online sales, technology of increase in room stock sales, revenue management, management and staff motivating, important personnel issues, and more.

On September 23, the “Sales Technologies” site hosted TravelLine’s International Conference for hoteliers named “Online Hotel Sales: Direct vs Agency Sales”. Among the speakers there were the leading experts from TripAdvisor, Agoda, Yandex, “A&A” Business Travel Services Holding and TravelLine such as Aleksandr Galochkin, Director General of TravelLine; Andrey Malyshev, Director General of Big Tree hospitality training company; Anna Rufo, Service Account Manager of TripAdvisor and others. They talked about the increase in booking traffic via official hotel website, explained the advantages and disadvantages of direct and agency online sales and talked about the most effective sales channels in hospitality industry.

In addition, on the first exhibition day at “The School of Hospitality Industry Managers. Sales Technologies” site Big Tree hotel training company held a unique practical training namde “Corporate Sales: 6 Steps to Success”. The leading company trainer Anna Gerasimova was practicing with the training members the most effective sales tools and hotel trends, she compared the possibilities of hotels in a current situation and practical application of discussed sales tools.

And on September 24, at “The School of Hospitality Industry Managers. Hotel Team” site Big Tree company business consultant Ekaterina Kikteva held a training on “Training System Organization in a Hotel” which allowed the participants to put into practice the training cases. The demonstration and analysis of film fragments on the training subject was particularly impressive.

From September 23 to 25, the “Hotel Team” site hosted seminars and trainings on personnel policy from leading experts of Swissam Business School as well as such recognized experts as Aleksey Volov, Director General of Best Western Premier Mona hotel, the author of books and publications on management in hospitality industry, and Natalia Eremeeva, trainer and consultant specializing in business development and client-oriented approach as well as a famous industry expert Ekaterina Garanina.

Prepared specifically for design specialists and architects, builders and designers as well as for investors and developers, “Architecture, Development and Design” Forum presented to the visitors various seminars on designing “from scratch”, premise reconstruction rules, presentation of the own project, “green construction” in Russia and others from highly skilled professionals such as Aleksandr Minaev, Andrey Bagaturiya, Anton Alekseev, Olga Valle, Denis Kuvshinnikov, Yuna Maigret, Aleksandr Balabin, Maksim Korotenko, Kai-Uwe Reitmann and others.

On September 23, the Forum hosted the final and the awarding ceremony of all-Russian architecture contest of design projects named “Creation of Hotel Space for a Businessman”, among the co-organizers there were ARCHdialog communications agency and ANO “Art people groupe”. Numerous architects, designers, architecture and design offices presented their works. There were about a hundred of applicants for participation in the contest, but the finals saw only eight projects. The jury consisted of Aleksandr Minaev (architect of ArtPeople Group), Anna Tulyankina (IIC “Euro-Policy”), Daniil Mishin (hotelier), Kai-Uwe Reitmann (Drees & Sommer, development company). The contest winners were Igor Bushminskiy who was awarded a training course in Drees & Sommer, the architecture contest partner, and a Certificate for free “HoReCa Design” course in the Russian language in Milan, and Marina Koval who was given an opportunity to publish her project in the “Architecture. Construction. Design” magazine and was given an Insurance Certificate from IIC “Euro-Policy” for 5 million RUB.

From September 23 to 25, the specialized site of “Hotel-2014” within the frameworks of “Cleanness. Convenience. Comfort” Forum hosted unique events and technological trainings designed especially for housekeepers and managers of cleaning hotel units, managers and cleaning company staff as well as for recruitment agencies of the field. A wide business program developed together with the “First Club of Hospitality Professionals” as well as the display of equipment suppliers, professional chemicals and cleaning services were presented at the Forum. On the September 24, the site hosted the show demonstration of interior textiles and staff clothing by Melange Décor and the show demonstration of GREIFF uniforms (Germany) by Radius company which became a real fashion-event in hotel industry.

On 24, September a separate “Competitions” site hosted a contest among future specialists of Russian hospitality industry named “Student PIR”. The “Unforgettable Weddings Room Design” contest was organized by PIR Expo International Exhibition Project and Hospitality Income Consulting under the auspices of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers (FRIO). Eleven colleges from Moscow, St. Petersburg and other Russian cities such as Vologda, Mikhailov and Vladimir took part in the contest. The 1st prize was given to St. Petersburg Hospitality Institute, the 2nd prize to Mikhaylovskiy Boarding School of Economics of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation, the 3rd prize was shared by Economic and Technology College No. 22 and Tsaritsyno College of Hospitality Industry No. 37. The Students’ works were evaluated by practical experts such as Aleksey Volov (General Manager of Best Western Premier Mona), Emilia Karabashlykova (Senior Recruiting Consultant of Kelly Services), Nelly Panchenko (Representative of Hospitality Income Consulting), and Ekaterina Shcherbakova (Global Sales Director of Preferred Hotel Group for Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan).

On September 23, at the “Competitions” site the students of the Russian State University of Tourism and Service held some entertaining workshops, quizzes, interactive games and many other fun activities.

In 2014, the “HOTEL. Development, Design & Operation” exhibition presented a bright, eventful business program, really effective options for business, many innovations and the latest trends in the industry. And it has again stood up as a significant hospitality industry event in the international arena.
